Why Isn’t My Chatbot Sending Messages? Followers-Only Mode Explained
If your chatbot isn’t sending messages or some chat features aren’t working, your channel might be set to followers-only mode. This Twitch setting restricts messaging to only those who have followed you for a set amount of time - which includes bots.
When followers-only mode is enabled, Twitch prevents non-followers from sending messages in your chat. Since chatbots, including ours, operate as external accounts, they may not meet the follow duration requirement, causing messages to fail or go undelivered.
- ❌ Chatbot messages not appearing.
- ❌ Chatbot commands not responding.
- ❌ Viewer engagement features not working.
To ensure all chatbot features work properly, you may need to disable followers-only mode or adjust its settings.
You can change this setting in your Twitch Creator Dashboard:
Open your Twitch channel and go to your chat window.
Type the following command in chat: /followersoff
This will immediately disable followers-only mode.
Go to your Twitch Creator Dashboard.
Click Settings > Moderation.
Scroll down to Followers-Only Chat.
Set the dropdown to Off (or reduce the follow time requirement).
Once followers-only mode is disabled, your chatbot should function normally and send messages without restrictions.
If you have an active monthly plan, you can enable "Use Followers" in your ViewBotter channel settings. This allows your chatbot to only send messages from accounts that have previously followed your channel, making it compatible with followers-only mode.
Log into your ViewBotter dashboard.
Go to Channels.
Find the option "Use Followers" and enable it.
Save your settings and restart your stream.
This ensures that all chatbot messages are sent only from accounts that have already followed you, keeping your chat engaging while following Twitch’s restrictions.
If your chatbot still isn't sending messages after disabling followers-only mode or enabling "Use Followers", try these:
✅ Refresh your chatbot settings in your ViewBotter dashboard.
✅ Restart your stream to apply the changes.
